Generally you're going to have three years to bring a lawsuit in New York State for a car accident. There are going to be circumstances where you have even less time. And that's kind of tricky because you may not know that you're in one of those circumstances.
So, if you, for example, were in an accident with a City employee driving another vehicle or a City vehicle; city, town, state, Port Authority, any of those entities, you're going to have even less time than three years to file a lawsuit and you're going to have to file what's called a Notice of Claim before you even start the lawsuit.
